SHOW SIDEBAR

As Derby season kicks into high gear here in Louisville, Kentucky, there's no better time to celebrate the rich food traditions that make this city so special. At the heart of that tradition is Henry Bain’s Famous Sauce—a legendary Louisville original that’s as timeless as the Derby itself.

We were honored to be recently featured in a fantastic video by Barry Goodall of Goodall's Country Kitchen, who sat down with our founder, Matt Jamie, to talk about the origins of Henry Bain’s, its iconic flavor, and how Bourbon Barrel Foods is keeping this culinary classic alive.

The Legacy of Henry Bain’s Famous Sauce

Originally created at the prestigious Pendennis Club in the late 1800s, Henry Bain’s Sauce was a favorite among club members for its unique blend of chutney-style sweetness and peppery heat. It was crafted to pair perfectly with steaks, roasts, and wild game—and it still does today.

At Bourbon Barrel Foods, we’re proud to be the official producer of this historic sauce. When we took over production, our founder Matt Jamie made it a priority to preserve its heritage while introducing it to new audiences across the country. In his interview, Matt shares how important it is to preserve the culinary heritage of our region. “We don’t just make sauces—we make food that tells a story,” he says. And Henry Bain’s is one of our most flavorful storytellers.
